A leader of the French Radical Party told a Zionist audience here last night that he was convinced the United States would go to war in order to preserve Israel’s existence. According to Jean Jacques Servan-Schreiber, there are two international issues over which the U.S. would risk a nuclear conflict — Berlin and Jerusalem. The French politician addressed a dinner of the Ahavat Zion, a Zionist Association here. He recently returned from a visit to Washington where he met with Secretary of State William P. Rogers and various Congressional leaders. When asked for his own views on the subject, Servan-Schreiber said. “All available means should be used if Israel’s independence and existence were to be endangered. He also came out strongly in favor of direct Arab-Israeli negotiations and claimed that a united Jerusalem should remain Israel’s capital.
