Several Palestinian newspapers are applauding the wife of Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat for accusing Israel of poisoning the Palestinian population. She made the comment last week in the presence of U.S. first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton. According to the Washington-based Middle East Media and Research Institute, one newspaper, the Palestinian Authority-affiliated Al- Hayat Al-Jadida said the main reason the White House condemned “sister” Suha Arafat was its “wish to make New York Jews happy in order to get a few votes supporting Hillary Clinton’s candidacy” for a Senate seat from New York.
