Shops and schools were closed in eastern Jerusalem as Palestinians observed a general strike to protest Israeli policy in the city and a planned tour by Jerusalem Mayor Ehud Olmert. In calling for the sanctions, the Palestinian Fatah organization said in a leaflet that “the danger to Jerusalem has never been as great as it is today.”
