Six Israeli workers were injured this morning when their tractor detonated a mine planted near the Syrian border. They were taken to a hospital where their condition was reported as not serious.
The Jewish National Fund workers were on their way to a land reclamation project near Chear Yashuv when the detonation occurred. The blast turned the tractor over and dumped them on the ground. An army unit was rushed to the spot and cleared the area.
Officials said it was virtually certain the mine was planted during the night because the road was used yesterday afternoon. United Nations observers and Israeli officers began an investigation.
The Foreign Affairs and Security Committee of Parliament was given a briefing today by Premier Levi Eshkol on the recent clashes in the Lake Tiberias area in which Syrians attacked a stranded Coast Guard cutter and lost two Soviet-made MIGs in an ensuing air clash. Foreign Minister Abba Eban reported on international incidents. Chief of Staff Yitzhak Rabin also reported.
