Some 30 fervently Orthodox Jews demonstrated outside the offices of a film distributor to protest an upcoming movie they say defames the Orthodox and Chasidic communities. New York State Assemblyman Dov Hikind, who led the protest, said the film “presents the worst stereotype” of Jews and has asked the Miramax film company to alter some of the movie. “A Price Above Rubies,” which is about a Chasidic woman frustrated by her life, is expected to be released later this month.
