Some 50 Jewish Capitol Hill staffers planted a cherry tree on the Capitol grounds Wednesday to mark Tu B’Shevat, the Jewish new year for trees, at a program sponsored by American Friends of Lubavitch. An identical fig tree was shipped to the Knesset staff for a similar planting to mark the 49th anniversary of the Knesset’s founding. The Knesset was founded on Tu B’Shevat.
