The “Rundschau” advocates that the Jews too must teach racial science, without committing the error of inculcating racial pride. Jewish consciousness must be the key-note unless these children are to grow up with warped characters, and a Jewish renaissance will result as the real and only contribution we can make to the Fatherland, the “Rundschau” says, basing the possibility of this on the premise that the new Germany will not reject all Jewish culture as inferior on principle.
The question of the teaching staff for Jewish schools arises as one of prime importance. “The Jewish schools must not be a ‘pound’ for the dismissed teachers, many of whom were utterly lacking in Jewish consciousness. Forced by the ousting orders they are just now discovering their Jewish heart, but the pulse beat is likely to be false. True, we want to help these unfortunates in a charitable manner. But our schools cannot be turned into charitable institutions. We must staff them with teachers who have zealously worked for the Jewish ideal, who have made that their life-work. There must be no compromise on this score, no matter how bitter the conflict”, says the “Rundschau”, voicing its hope that German Jewry, now at the crossroads, will thus walk the path of regeneration leading to the production of Jewish thought and art as exemplified in Beer-Hofmann’s “Schlaflied” and “Jakob’s Traum” and his “Junger David”, just ready for publication, and away from the assimilable, non-racial culture production of the Jews in Germany generally up to the time of Hitler’s anathema on their kind and works.
