The municipality of Santiago honored the State of Israel on its 10th anniversary today by naming one of the city squares “Plaza Republica de Israel.” Two state schools, one in the city of Conception and the other in Valparaiso, were named Escuale Republica de Israel, also in honor of Israels anniversary.
The three leading morning newspapers in Santiago appeared with many pages depicting life in Israel. The radio station here initiated an “Israel Week” during which the station carried programs of Israel music every day. Samuel Goren, Israel’s Minister in Chile, was invited to broadcast a speech on Israel. Mr. Goren tendered a reception for the diplomatic corps in the Union Club here. The Jewish population celebrated Israel’s anniversary with a dinner-ball at Hotel Carera.
