The Reform movement is releasing a new edition of its Torah commentary. “The Revised Edition of The Torah: A Modern Commentary,” will include a gender-neutral translation and larger print in addition to introductory essays to each of the five Books of Moses and the weekly Torah portions. The updated version, to be published in February 2005, also will include new translations of the book of Genesis and of the Haftarot, in addition to several other new features. “The revised edition, updated and enhanced in many ways, will enable us to continue to keep the Torah at the center of our lives,” said rabbi Eric Yoffie, president of the Union for Reform Judaism. “It will provide knowledge and inspiration to all who hunger for Jewish learning and spiritual nourishment.” First published in 1981, the commentary was written by Rabbis W. Gunther Plaut and Bernard Bamberger and Professor William Hallo.
