The Senate without dissent Monday adopted a resolution urging the West German government to abolish or extend the date that the statute of limitations on prosecuting Nazi war criminals will go into effect. The statute is due to go into effect Jan. I, 1980 unless the West German Parliament acts to abolish it or to extend the date of its expiration. The Senate acted on a voice vate after the resolution was introduced by Sen. Alan Cranston (D.Calif.), the deputy Democratic leader in the Senate. Cranston’s measure had 43 co-sponsors from both major parties. The resolution will be sent to the Bonn government. A similar resolution was adopted by the House May 9.
