The United States called on Lithuania to have a former U.S. citizen stand trial for war crimes. The call to “take whatever steps are necessary” to bring Aleksandras Lileikis to justice came after his trial was suspended indefinitely earlier this month and postponed three times earlier this year. Lileikis, 91, is accused of having given Jews over to Nazi death squads when he was head of the Nazi-sponsored Lithuanian security police during World War II.
