The world renowned scholar Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik of Boston, honorary president of Agudath Horabonim (Union of Orthodox Rabbis of the U.S. and Canada) declared to the leadership of Agudath Horabonim that he absolutely opposes to any compromise in the “Who is a Jew” Law in Israel. Rabbi Soloveitchik said: “The National Religious Party in Israel may definitely not withdraw her demand that the Law of Return should be amended so that it should state explicitly that conversions will be recognized only if they are performed in accordance with halacha. Any compromise is deceptive and will not serve its purpose.”
