The French Resident General of Tunisia has ordered the closing of the newspaper “Irada,” organ of the Vieux Destour Party, following its publication of a Nazi-like attack on the Jews. The article caused considerable anxiety among the Jews, and the Jewish community has filed official protests with the authorities.

The Neo-Destour Party, major nationalist group in the country, has issued a statement reaffirming its position that the Jewish population is as much an integral part of the country as the Moslem population. The French press was unanimous today in its condemnation of the “Irada” article.
