The newspaper Observer said editorially today that one of Turkey’s conditions for remaining out of the war was that “Syria and Palestine must not fall into Italian possession.” The conditions, the editorial added, were “not disserviceable to Britain. In the eastern Mediterranean they are safeguards against spread of chaos.”
