For the first time, Turkish Jewry was permitted to send a delegation to attend the World Sephardic Congress, which opens in Jerusalem today. The Turkish Government has granted a request of the Grand Rabbinate to send such a delegation,

Under Turkish law no local group may be affiliated with or send delegates to meetings of groups abroad, unless the government grants permission. Jewish communal leaders today expressed satisfaction with the government’s action, describing it as a sign of understanding and sympathy toward the Jews.
