President Truman’s Commission on Immigration and Naturalization, which is studying the McCarran-Walter Immigration Act, today opened public hearings here at which representatives of Jewish and non-Jewish organizations will testify.
The hearings here, which will last two days, are part of a series which the Commission is holding in II cities from coast to coast for the purpose of gathering public views as to whether the McCarran Act of last June should be modified, and, if so, how. The Commission has held hearings so far in New York, Cleveland and Detroit.
