News Brief

Tzipi Livni’s son, a conscript sailor in the Israeli Navy, was sent to the brig for drinking.

Omri Spitzer, one of the Israeli foreign minister’s two children, was among off-duty sailors arrested by military police over the weekend for drinking at a party, Yediot Achronot reported Sunday.

Spitzer, who serves as a missile-boat commander based in Ashdod, received a 12-day jail sentence.

Israel’s armed forces have cracked down on drinking by their conscripts since a soldier died of alcohol poisoning at a party two years ago.
