Walter Rothschild, chairman of the Jewish Welfare Board’s Army and Navy Committee between 1942 and 1946, was today awarded the Army’s Medal of Freedom with bronze palm “for exceptionally meritorious achievement which aided the United States in the prosecution of the war against the enemy in continental Europe.”
The citation further stated that he was “instrumental in organizing hospitality committees in Great Britain which contributed notably to the fulfillment of the urgent and special religious needs and welfare requirements of members of the armed forces of the Jewish faith, and which later on served as a model for the solution of similar problems in other sections of the theater. His initiative, tireless energy and outstanding devotion to duty merit the praise and recognition of the United States.”
