Winter squalls and dust storms shut down parts of Israel. Heavy rainfall, combined with sand blown in from the south, prompted Israel to suspend operations Thursday at small airports and warn civilian shipping not to leave harbors. The Health Ministry advised pregnant women, the elderly and the sick to stay indoors because of the risk of respiratory problems. The Mt. Hermon ski resort was shut down due to a snowstorm. The squalls are expected to last into the weekend.
