Yasser Arafat said Israel fabricated the incident in which a ship carrying 50 tons of arms was captured in the Red Sea last month. Days after sending the United States a “positive” letter pledging not to try again to smuggle arms, Arafat told Lebanon’s An-Nahar newspaper that Israel had manufactured the Karine-A episode to discredit the Palestinian Authority.
