Yom Kippur in Palestine was uneventful except for a minor incident caused by the zeal of a young Jew who insisted that the shofar be blown at the Wailing Wall. He loudly announced that the government was not entitled to interfere with religious practices. A Jewish police officer first tried to calm the young man pointing out to him that Chief Rabbi Kook had accepted the government’s ruling. The police officer then ordered the man’s detention. He was released after an hour.

Only government officials and Arab notables were at the railway station to welcome High Commissioner Chancellor home from his leave. The Jews were absent because of the holiday.
