An interviewee in James D. Besser’s article on peace plans for Israel speaks of achieving “the dream of a democratic Jewish Israel” (“Buzz Over Peace Plan Causing Jitters,” April 16).
Those who think it is safe and fair to set up a Palestinian state — do they not intend it to be democratic as well? Because if so, it should of course be willing to tolerate a 15-20 percent minority of Jews (settlers), just as Israel does. Will this be acknowledged so that the ridiculous settlement freeze affecting almost half a million Jews can finally be terminated?
