Birders To Converge
On Eilat
Southern Israel becomes a haven for birdwatchers in March as millions of birds pass through the area in their annual spring migration. To mark the occasion the Israel Ornithological Center and the International Birding and Research Center Eilat sponsor the 5th Eilat Spring Migration Festival, which will take place March 20-27 in the southern resort city. It is expected to draw birdwatchers from all over the world. Southern Israel is considered a unique location as it is the only land bridge between Europe, Asia and Africa, and provides the migrating birds with a large variety of habitats and the warm air currents needed for migration.
The weeklong festival includes day and night birding tours to all the best sites in southern Israel, many bird-related activities, presentations, talks and more. Guests are hosted in the Isrotel Agamim Hotel. More information www.eilatbirdsfestival.com and www.birdsofeilat.com
Israel Museum’s Four Seasons Exhibit
A new exhibition exploring the visual depiction of the four seasons in European art from the 16th century onward is now on view at the Israel Museum, Jerusalem. The show, which features paintings by Pissarro, Rodin and others, will remain up for the entire year. “The Four Seasons” examines the connection among art, mythology, and folklore in agrarian societies dependant on the cycle of the seasons, according to a release from the museum. More recent works demonstrate changes in this theme’s depiction by artists in modern urban society. For information, visit www.imj.org.il.
