Members of the Shomrim security patrol in Borough Park beat officers from the 66th Precinct 10-3 in an annual softball game Wednesday night.
The victory leaves the two teams even after the cops’ 12-7 triumph over Shomrim last year. "Both teams played hard and displayed terrific sportsmanship," said Councilman David Greenfield, a Democrat of Borough Park who sponsored the game along with area businesses. The match was held at St. Athanasius Sports complex on 53rd Street in Borough Park.
Pitching for the Shomrim was Menachem Diamondson, facing off against the 66th’s Officer Anthony Napolitano. The precinct’s commanding officer, Deputy Inspector John Sprague played second base for his team. The event drew local elected officials and police officials as well as hundreds of spectators.
