Old/New Shabbaton
The first ever, Old/New Shabbaton, hosted by high profile NYC real estate developer Michael Bolla, in cooperation with the Lower East Side Jewish Conservancy and the Jewish International Council, NY will take place on June 8 – 9 at various venues on the Lower East Side.
The Shabbaton offers those unfamiliar with the contemporary Jewish community on the Lower East Side with an opportunity to have a rich cultural immersion over the course of the Jewish Sabbath. The event is the brainchild of Michael Bolla, who is the sales director and creative consultant for the Madison Jackson, located at the intersection of Madison and Jackson Streets, which has been converted from a classic schoolhouse to affordably luxurious residential units. The Madison Jackson will open to the public in the coming weeks.
Billed as a Jewish adventure on the historic Lower East Side, the Shabbaton offers participants the opportunity to pray in the neighborhood’s oldest and most beautiful synagogues; take classes with amazing rabbis, educators and historians; experience incredible guided tours hosted by the LES Conservancy; meet members of the warm and wonderful community; take a Shabbos walk through the neighborhood and along the newly designed riverfront park; enjoy gourmet Glatt Kosher Shabbos meals…led by spirited program directors; and take advantage of home hospitality.

The Synagogue for the Arts
is a traditional synagogue with a creative approach to the challenges of Jewish life in the modern era. We are a welcoming Jewish community in downtown Manhattan, open to people of all levels of Jewish learning and experience and providing opportunities for all to deepen their knowledge and practice of Judaism. Our community is enriched by the many cultures of an extremely diverse congregation. Groups of French,Spanish, Russian, and German speakers are present every Shabbat along with members of the Sephardic community. We place a special emphasis on community as a form of spiritual expression in a halachic setting. We have a broad range of activities for adults and children of all ages. Adults refresh their Jewish backgrounds or learn for the first time at our Tuesday evening seminars and ongoing classes. The young people learn in Hebrew School from the K class to one which prepares them for Bnei Mitzvah and beyond with our imaginative and engaging teen programs. We see our extraordinary building, our role in New York's art community, our gallery, and our performance space as ways in which to enhance our spiritual setting. All of these aspects combine to make Synagogue for the Arts the pre-eminent cultural and spiritual center for Downtown Manhattan's Jewish families.

Town and Village Synagogue

The warmth of our community is experienced not just in heartfelt prayer but also in meeting people around the Kiddush table.
Jewish education matters for all ages. We encourage our members to find deeper meaning through the study of core Jewish concepts and out of the box. Adults can learn to read Hebrew and study Hebrew texts with many of the best teachers in New York City.
Led by our creative Education Director, Shanee Epstein, our award winning Hebrew school is a place where our children really do learn and really do love to learn. Our community of 20’s and 30’s at T&V hosts Friday night services and friendly and diverse Shabbat dinners the second Shabbat of the month. And our offerings will expand,thanks to a generous grant from UJA-Federation of New York.
