Reverse Inclusion

As parents of children with special needs and the founders of Shutaf Inclusion Programs in Jerusalem, we were thrilled to read “Funders Debate Inclusion During Tour of Camps” (Aug. 10). We thank the Ruderman Family Foundation for their ongoing support and welcome the Harry and Jeannette Weinberg Foundation, both mentioned in Helen Chernikoff’s article.

Shutaf uses a “reverse inclusion” model at all of its camp and youth programs — close to 75 percent of our children have special needs, alongside a 25 percent minority group of children of typical development. Teens represent a large part of what we do as well, with our Young Leadership Program for Teens — for those with and without special needs — that includes an important vocational training element year-round, funded by the Ruderman Family Foundation.
