The Jewish grantmaker Slingshot Fund released its eighth annual guide for funders on Monday, including a 14 percentage point increase in the number of organizations headed by women, the organization said in a press release.
Slingshot is a group of funders in their 20s and 30s who pool their money to support the organizations featured each year in the guidebook. That annual guide’s imprimatur and wide distribution also helps most of the featured organizations attract additional funding.
Since 2007, women have headed about 50 percent of the organizations and projects listed in the guide; this year, that figure rose to 54 percent.
The guide is distributed to 7,500 funders and has highlighted 173 organizations since its inception including 19 new ones this year.
At 18 percent, the number of organizations headed by rabbis is also on the rise, Slingshot said.
Among the organizations that had their debut in the guide this year: Amir, a social justice and environmental organization and J’burgh, a young professionals and graduate student group in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
