Comparing Reporting

Kudos to The Jewish Week’s investigative report into apparent inverted justice for Sam Kellner (“Abuse Whistleblower Battling Both Haredi Community, DA,” Jan. 18).

But where is the same investigative journalism for the Orthodox ex-kosher slaughterhouse owner Sholom Rubashkin, whose absurdly disproportionate 27-year sentence for financial irregularities should have been approximately one to two years, as given in other similar cases? Since the government couldn’t get charges for employing illegal immigrants to stick after raiding his plant, they threw the book at him while the major slaughterhouses went free.

But the Rubashkin miscarriage of justice is reported merely as “Rubashkin Family Hopes for a Miracle” (Jan. 18).
