I hope everyone has read Rabbi Norman Lamm’s entire letter [of his resignation as chancellor and rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva University]. It is an incomparable example of honesty and humility, as well as a prescription for all of us to follow.
Rather than criticize him for a mistake in judgment made in good faith at a very different time, we should all take pride in his ability and willingness to admit he erred. Then we should look at the recipe he gives us for how we should all behave. His leadership as rabbi, teacher, president of YU and foremost spokesman for Modern Orthodoxy, is something we should all appreciate and emulate.
