Israel has 90 days to free more than 2,000 migrants being held in a detention center in the Negev after a judicial panel on Monday struck down the state’s African migrant policy, according to the Jerusalem Post.

The main opinion stated both that the migrants’ detention for up to three years was a violation of constitutional rights and that their presence poses a problem to the state in that they compete for jobs and have made some residents feel unsafe, the Post reported.

The state may need to offer permanent residence to the migrants, according to the Post.
