A venerable non-sectarian nonprofit organization with Jewish roots is merging with another group in the hope of creating a model for other, similar organizations around the world.

Jewish Guild Healthcare is merging with Lighthouse International to create an organization that will offer health and rehabilitation services for people who are blind, vision-impaired or have multiple disabilities, the groups announced in a Sept. 17 press release.

“We believe this is a milestone event that will, over time, open a world of possibilities for improved service delivery, access to care and knowledge sharing,” said James Dubin in the press release. He currently chairs the board of Jewish Guild Healthcare and will also run the board of the combined organization.

Jewish Guild Healthcare was formed in 1904 to help people with vision loss. Lighthouse International was founded in 1905.
