With great interest, I read an article by Stewart Ain, “Survivors Heirs Now Cleared For SSI Payments” (Jan. 2).
In my capacity as an executive director of Hebrew Educational Society, my colleagues and I work a great deal with Holocaust survivors and their children. A study by the California School of Professional Psychology showed that the adult children of Holocaust survivors obtained significantly higher scores on self-reported measures of psychopathology than control Jewish participants. It is only fair, thanks to Michael and Barbara Urbach Lissner, that now survivors’ heirs could receive SSI payments.
