The Museum of Biblical Art, an independent cultural institution near Columbus Circle in Manhattan that previously was affiliated with the American Bible Society, will close after its current exhibition of sculptures by Donatello ends on June 14.

The museum, which looked at Western art through the perspective of the artistic traditions of Judaism and Christianity, faced insurmountable expenses, the New York Times reported today.

Independent for a decade, the Museum continued to receive operating support and space from the Bible Society while the institution tried “to move out of the shadow” of the Society, “there was brand confusion,” Richard Townsend, director, told the Times.
