Some might remember the May 24 Mets-Phillies game for the debut of Cuban hurler, Alay Soler, or the Mets’ 5-4 victory, but others drove home across the Triborough Bridge talking about the right arm of Rabbi Haskel Lookstein, who in the spirit of Gene Conley and Dave DeBusschere might be better known for his basketball Jones.
Rabbi Lookstein, of Congregation Kehilath Jeshurun and the Ramaz School, threw out the first ball — a high strike — to catcher Ramon Castro in front of 32,000 fans, a goodly 500 of whom came from KJ and Ramaz to check out the crafty veteran. “Good pitch,” said Willie Randolph, the Mets skipper. “If you need me later in the game I’ll be available,” said KJ’s skipper.
