We note Rabbi Lyle Kamlet’s appreciation (Letters, Nov. 12) for our dvar Torah (Sabbath Week, “The Sacrifice Of Sarah,” Oct. 29).
However, his statement that we erred is incorrect. Avram was not the first to refer to God as “judge.” In fact, when Hagar first becomes pregnant with Ishmael, it is Sarai, in Genesis (verse 16:5), who tells Avram “Let God judge between you and me.” It is only later in Genesis (18:25) that Avram addresses God directly as “judge.” Thus, Sarai’s referring to God “as judge” clearly preceded Avram’s doing so.
