No Change In Hamas

One of the main themes Gary Rosenblatt addressed in his column, “Recognizing And Responding To Real Enemies” (May 13) is to take seriously those who talk of the destruction of Israel and its people. He points out that nothing has changed with Hamas and its leadership since they merged with the Fatah.

Khaled Meshal, the leader of Hamas, designated a terrorist group by the U.S., has made clear that it will not abide by any of the three requirements put forth in dealing with Mideast peace: forsaking violence, recognizing previous agreements between Israel and the Palestinians, and recognizing Israel.

In a recent interview, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, the chair of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, was emphatic in stating that no taxpayer funds must go to the new Palestinian unity government. I strongly urge readers to support her efforts in getting her colleagues to ensure that the Obama administration upholds this law.
