I do not understand why The Jewish Week provides exposure to Rev. Al Sharpton (“Sharpton To Discuss Crown Heights On Hamptons Panel,” Aug. 19), who fomented the anti-Semitic 1991 Crown Heights riots (with references to “apartheid,” Jewish residents as “diamond merchants” and “no justice, no peace”).
Does the mere passage of time cleanse a demagogue who has never made amends to the community for his venal actions? Positive coverage by The Jewish Week, the voice of New York Jewry, legitimizes Sharpton and undermines the positions of responsible Jewish leaders who demand the honorable and appropriate course of action — an apology, before official contacts.
