Hatchet Job

I am a former student of Yeshivat HaKotel and am writing to express my disgust at the hatchet job your newspaper perpetrated against Rabbi Aharon Bina (“Has The ‘Tough Love’ Rebbe Gone Too Far?” Jan. 27).

The article’s disdain for the truth emerges at the very beginning. The statement that “a significant minority of former students, employees and colleagues maintain that Rav Bina is controlling, manipulative and emotionally coercive in ways that would never be accepted in other schools” is unsupported by facts, let alone proven in the article.

This appears to be no more than an attempt to sell papers or heighten The Jewish Week’s relevance as it tries to find the next scandal, even if the truth stands in the way of a good story. Woe to the future of the newspaper if a few allegations on an anonymous blog take the place of true investigative journalism.
