I am curious about the backgrounds of Rabbi Ellen Lippmann and others associated with the Kolot Chayeinu synagogue “who are simply not interested in Israel, as well as those who reject the notion of a Jewish state” (“’Voices’ Divided Over Israel,” April 20). My guess is they are not descendants of Holocaust survivors.
Six million Jews perished during the Holocaust. Had there been a State of Israel at that time, many of these Jews could have escaped to Israel and many lives would have been saved.
I am surprised to read how Jews in leadership roles do not recognize the importance of the State of Israel. Sadly, they do not have a clear sense of Jewish history.
