The once-in-a-lifetime confluence on Thanksgiving and Chanukah next month is getting to be a big deal – at least in Boston.
Mayor Thomas Menino said this week that he will proclaim Thursday, Nov. 28 – which will be Thanksgiving and the first day of the Jewish Festival of Lights – as “Thanksgivukkah Day” in the city, JTA reported. He’s using the hybrid name some people have given to the day.
“More than any other place in the country, it’s a big deal” in Boston, said Barry Shrage, president of the city’s Combined Jewish Philanthropies, which has created a website on the holiday.
Meanwhile, don’t count Stephen Colbert of Comedy Central’s “Colbert Report” as a fan of what he calls “Thanksgivingukkah.” He expressed his opinions recently in an irreverent “Thanksgiving Under Attack” rant.
