Hugs For Nadler

I propose a communal hug for Rep. Jerry Nadler, for his many years of inspiring service in the Congress, past, present and future (“Nadler’s Iran Vote Unleashes Vitriol,” Aug. 28).

It is fair to assume that those behind the ugliness never would vote for him, but they make a lot of noise and get disproportionate attention. Those of us who have been proud to give Jerry our vote since he was in the New York Assembly have done so in celebration of his smarts, his humor, his perspective, his integrity, his hard work, his sidewalk conversations, and his unwavering support of Israel — the country and her people, not necessarily every government.

As we reflect backwards and to the years ahead, let it be with a deeply felt appreciation to Jerry, and great regret that the discourse of some in our community has become so un-Jewish, and so distant from Love Thy Neighbor.
