Outside The Tent

Thank you to New York area director of the New Israel Fund Stephanie Ives for revealing NIF’s honoring of the PLO — which has killed more Israelis than any other organization and continues to do so — as a “government” with “protocols” that don’t permit its Secretary General, Saeb Erekat, to speak in the presence of an Israeli flag. (Letters, Dec. 25)

The comment reminded me of the 2010 e-mail attributed to Hedva Radovanitz, NIF’s former associate director in Israel, which said that in 100 years Israel would be majority Arab and that the disappearance of a Jewish state would not be the tragedy that Israelis fear since the state would become more democratic.

Such self-declared clarifications of the policies and priorities of the New Israel Fund make it clear that it sits outside the big tent of Israel supporters.  Now it is up to each of us in the Jewish community to take the appropriate actions.
