Your Editorial “Where’s The Outrage” (Jan. 22) notes the murder of Israeli nurse and mother Dafna Meir and asks: “Where is the media coverage?” Unfortunately, The New York Times-led media are biased against Israel.
During recent months, the Times has justified Palestinian stabbings of Israelis as being “fueled” by a “dispute” over the Temple Mount (Dec. 24), without clarifying that the Palestinian allegations are baseless incitement. Meanwhile, when a Gaza cleric told worshippers: “Stab! … Cut [the Jews] into body parts,” the Times mysteriously failed to report it.
The Times has belittled deadly Palestinian rock-throwing attacks on Israelis as a “rite of passage” (Sept. 15), and described East Jerusalem and the West Bank as “territory Israel seized from Jordan in the 1967 war” (Sept. 14 and 15, 2015), even though it was Jordan that attacked Israel in 1967. The Times even reported that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas “has preached nonviolence for his entire tenure” (Oct. 10), ignoring incitement like his “filthy feet” speech a month earlier and his 2010 Arab League summit address declaring: “If you [Arab states] want war, and if all of you will fight Israel, we are in favor.”
The Times has even defended Palestinian Holocaust denial, reporting: “Many Israelis have vilified Mr. Abbas as a Holocaust denier because of a book he wrote that challenged the number of Jewish victims” (Oct. 22). In fact, Abbas didn’t merely “challenge” the number of victims — he called the Holocaust “the Zionist fantasy, the fantastic lie that six million Jews were killed,” suggested that “only a few hundred thousand” Jews may have actually died, and claimed that a “scientific study” proved there were no gas chambers. Yet the Times portrayed Abbas as a victim of Israeli vilification rather than a purveyor of Holocaust-denying lies and hate.
