Amazing Grapes

If you pour it, they will drink.

That was the mantra at play on Monday night as about 400 people sampled more than 300 kosher wines at The Jewish Week’s seventh annual Grand Wine Tasting at City Winery.

As the quality of kosher wines has improved, the Grand Wine Tasting, now in its seventh year, has attracted wineries from all over the world; this year, the event featured the first vintages from noted New York restaurateur Jacques Capsouto’s vineyards in Israel. In all, there were 26 wine exhibitors, and eight new ones this year. Four food companies provided cheese, hummus and pastries. And El Al airlines, a sponsor of the event, presented a free round-trip flight to Israel.

The event is held in conjunction with The Jewish Week’s annual Kosher Wine Guide, which was published in the March 25 issue and featured the paper’s Top 18 Kosher Wine List, judged by a panel of wine experts.
