I was astounded, shocked, to read Gary Rosenblatt’s column, “How Trump Would Shake Up Mideast Policy” (July 29). I learned that David Friedman has his hopes up on becoming U.S. ambassador to Israel under Donald Trump, although by his own admission he has “no experience in diplomacy, professional politics or organizational Jewish life,” Rosenblatt wrote. Ironically, this sounds a good deal like Donald Trump himself.
Trump, via Friedman’s telling, went back and forth on the two-state solution option. Was this profound or not?
Hillary Clinton proposed that Jerusalem be the capital of Israel in 2000. Here it is proposed as if it’s a new idea by Trump as part of the Republican platform.
Another profundity was the message for Palestinian leadership: stop killing Israelis, begin to develop the kind of infrastructure that can demonstrate … [being] a good neighbor, and sit down with Israel … [so that people’s lives] can best be served. Wow.
Thanks to Rosenblatt for giving us such a heads up on the Trump administration, on its seemingly never-before-thought-of plans for Israel and the Middle East, and for its possible diplomatic messenger.
