In his Opinion essay, Rabbi Rolando Matalon writes glowingly of the welcome his grandparents received in America, as well he should. (“Open The Gates For Refugees,” Sept. 23)
What he neither reflects on, nor writes about, is the intense hatred of Jews and
Israel on the part of Syrians that drove them out. Is it that he thinks Syrian culture and Syrian education has been radically transformed over the
years? I do not.
