Middle Ground On Immigration

What so many do not seem to understand about the Muslim ban is that the U.S. was never going to allow massive numbers of unvetted refugees into the United States (“Why Sephardim And Ashkenazim Clash Over Trump,” March 3).

People are looking at Europe and saying, “We don’t want that,” which is understandable. But the way we make sure to not be Europe is to more closely control the numbers allowed in and to vet those coming in. We were already doing both. The number of refugees coming in and the percentage they make up in the overall population is paltry.

America is also much better in general at integrating immigrants, and Muslims in the U.S. are far more integrated than in Europe. The ban just fuels bigotry and extremism. There is a middle ground to take.
