This is a debate that should be taking place in the 1800s (“A Title For Orthodox Women Spiritual Leaders?” Opinion, Nov. 17).

Orthodox men, and rabbis in particular, must open their eyes and they will find that life has changed. All change is complicated and gives rise to uncertainty. But we must recognize women can vote, almost be president, they can be prime minister, doctors, lawyers and all other professions. Unless these male rabbis can cite a specific halachic prohibition, they should accept that Orthodox Judaism will not be shamed by joining all the other branches of our religion and accept all [qualified] Jews as rabbis.
