So Rabbi Paul Kipnes, the spiritual leader of Congregation Or Ami in Calabasas, Calif., loves his New England Patriots. And Rabbi Joshua Aaronson of Temple Judea in Tarzana, Calif., is devoted to the Philadelphia Eagles (“Rooting Rabbis Up Super Bowl Ante,” Feb. 2). Has either considered the fact that the players on their favorite NFL teams are killing themselves by playing this ultra-dangerous sport? What cognitive deterioration and other horrors will be ahead for these athletes at ages 40 and 50?
No one should play tackle football anymore. No child, no adolescent, no college student, no professional athlete. Athletes doing great harm to themselves shouldn’t be cheered on by rabbis or by anyone else.
