Thank you very much for the excellent article, “Partnership Supports ‘One Of Most Precious Mitzvot’” (Oct. 19), by Steve Lipman, on a program to help people observe the beautiful custom of visiting the cemetery during the holiday season. Permit me to point out two things: it is inappropriate and perhaps a bit of a desecration to stand on the grave of the deceased. That is why many graves even have what is known as a bed on top. One should stand a bit to the side.
Also the prayer to be recited, especially if no minyan is present, is the Kayl Malay Rachamin rather than the Kaddish.
